Wood Lake boat launch clearance

You may have encountered clearance problems at the Wood Lake boat launch (from Fox Point Road). Here is the history of problems at the boat launch and a image of a route that might have the most clearance.

HISTORY

At some point in time, a concrete ramp was installed at the Wood Lake boat launch on Fox Point Road.  Over many years boats would gun their engines to make it onto their trailers on that ramp.  That gunning displaced soil from the bottom of the concrete ramp into the lake creating a crater at the bottom of the ramp and a mound of soil on the approach to the ramp from the lake.  The wheels of boat trailers could fall off the end of the concrete ramp into the crater and it was difficult & dangerous for people to get their boat trailer out of the lake.  The Town of Bracebridge arranged for the concrete pad to be extended.  This work was completed in Nov 2021.  The extended concrete pad eliminated the crater at the bottom of the ramp.  The mound of soil on the approach to ramp remains and may cause some boats to bottom out as they approach the ramp.

We are seeking a solution, such as dredging, to distribute the mound of soil, but are anticipating it will take a long time to arrange funding and get approval from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

In the meantime, this map shows the route that some people in the past have found has more clearance than coming straight in towards the side of the dock.
