Beverly Rignall Hyatt Obituary
Beverly Rignall Hyatt, born May 17, 1940, passed away peacefully in Hospice care on March 9, 2024. Beverly grew up in Fairview Park, Ohio and graduated from Baldwin Wallace University. She and her husband lived briefly in Fort Walton Beach, Florida before returning to Ohio and eventually settled in Hickory which they called home for 53 years.
Beverly was active in the Hickory community as a member of the Service League of Hickory and the First Presbyterian Church. She was a charter member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. Initially an elementary school teacher, Beverly turned her attention to raising her four children and later to working in her husband’s practice.
Everyone who knew Beverly understood that her dogs and her family’s Canadian cottage were two of her life-long loves. From Newfoundlands to French Bulldogs, Beverly was happiest with a dog by her side or in her lap. Beverly was a founding member of the Greater Hickory Kennel Club and was the founder of the Southeastern Newfoundland Club. Nearly every summer of her life, Beverly enjoyed time at the cottage her parents built on Wood Lake near Bracebridge, Ontario. Growing up, Beverly treasured time with her parents at their family vacation spot and later took pleasure in watching her own children and grandchildren delight in the lake’s beautiful views. She fostered lifelong friendships, and created fond memories for her and her extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Rignall and Gladys Albrecht Rignall; and two sisters: Roseanne Rignall Wachalec and Janice Rignall Brewer.
Beverly is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Jack Hyatt of Hickory and their four children: John S. Hyatt and husband Kevin Eakes of Charleston, SC; Jennifer Hyatt of Charlotte, NC; Kari Hyatt Miller and husband Michael Miller of Concord, NC; and Amy Alexander and husband Tim Alexander of Concord, NC. Affectionately known as Gaga to her grandchildren, Beverly is also survived by her four granddaughters: Madison Hyatt Alexander, Harlowe James Miller, Grace Hyatt Alexander, and Pluma Rose Hyatt-Eakes.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Beverly’s gentle and welcoming spirit will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. Beverly’s family nickname was The Lady, a fitting title for such a gracious and thoughtful person. Beverly cannot be replaced and will never be forgotten by those who loved her and will carry on her legacy.
A celebration of life was held on April 6th at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3710 N. Center St.; Hickory, NC 28601. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church.
